Women's Studies Conference, Tampere, Finland, November 16-17, 2012
In November 2012, Women's Studies Annual Conference gathers together scholars in Women's and Gender Studies to discuss current issues and latest findings and to share new ideas. The theme of this year's conference is Feminist Spaces and Futures.
We are now soliciting papers for the workshops. Six workshops welcome papers and presentations in English. Please submit your abstract for paper (150-200 words) directly to the workshop coordinators. The closing date for paper proposals is September 17th 2012. - Biotechnological spaces and futures: feminist interrogations
- Trans* perspectives
- Postcolonial and transnational spaces and futures
- Queer - between politics and literature
- Gender identity - revisiting the concept of identity and the politics of difference
The keynote speakers for the conference are British feminist scholars Angela McRobbie (Communication Studies, Goldsmiths, University of London) and Stevi Jackson (Women's Studies, The University of York). Professor Angela McRobbie has studied cultural and creative industries, popular culture, and the future of feminism. Professor Stevi Jackson has studied the changes in gender and sexuality, and most recently she has focussed upon gender and intimacy in European and Asian cultures.
The main language in the conference is Finnish, but the keynote lectures as well as six workshops are in English.
The 2012 Women's Studies Conference is organized by The Association for Women's Studies in Finland (SUNS) and the Gender Studies Programme at the University of Tampere.
